I have a '92 X 4wd w/ 35" tires, and I tow alot just about everyday. I realized when I put 35" tires on it I would lose power. Does anyone know the best way to beef up the 4.0, I realize you can't get but so much more power out of it, but a think 15-20 more horses would help out a lot. Maybe like a computer chip or a supercharger?

Air Intake, Chip, Exhaust, S/C, Re-Gear for larger tires. there is alot of opitions.

You will notice the best gains from regearing. What gears are you running currently? With 35's you would be best with 4.56's or 5.13's

Re-Gear for larger tires!

the best thing i did was go with 4.56's my next mod is a supercharger.. got it sitting in the garage.. chip it and 4.56's would do you good. maybe a programable MAF and a cam.

Gears! I'll be running 5.13's with my 35" tires...but i wouldn't do that if I was going to use it as a dd.

Exhaust, intake, chip. I think the 4.0 is a great engine for offroad...

Thanks, I am currently running a 3.73 ratio. I know that I am probably killing my transmission and motor. What exactly is involved in changing the gears? Any recommendations on brand of gears I should purchase would help, and also won't I lose top end power if I put 4.56 gears in, I was always under the impression that the higher the gear ratio the more low end and less top end.

I have yukons front and rear (once they are put in). The higher numerically the gears you use the better the low end. You will be abit slower though top end. I'd say 4.56's would put you back inthe stock range though :)

You may run a little high on the highway (70MPH = 2800RPMS). If you are 4wd you will have to do both if you plan on using 4wd, so get ready for some money spending. Now, Yukon (for me) has been the best company so far. I have richmond gears in my rear and they are a little noisy, but I was told they were but they are strong as could be. Anyway, good luck with the gearing. 4wheel driving specialty on west broad will do it for a pretty penny -- I've always found them to be expensive. good luck

i have 32's w/ 4.56's. 70mph is about 3200 rpm. in oversdrive

you would probably be happy with a cam upgrade. Do a search for 410 comp cam.

Thanks a mill guys, finally some good info to go on. I'll be sure to post the progress.
