Yours is computer controled by the GEM Module (if your talking about the '98).

GEM Module Reprogramming

You can either get Ford to reprogram it or you can try and find a calibrator (like Bamachips from Doug) and get that to work. -Drew
Wouldn't the rear ABS Sensor send the correct signal to the Speedometer regardless of what gear is in the rearend ??

for 97 and below second generations, the speedometer reads from the sensor on the back of the transfer case. for 98's and above, the speedometer reads from the differential.

but yeah ur right, only the tire diameter offsets the speedo for 98s and above since the sensor teeths on the carrier is never usually changed.

This dosent have anything to do with an Explorer but it does go along with the subject the thread is on.

My dad has a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. We added a Edge programer box. With this box he gained 5 mpg. Now I know Explorers are gas but I think similar results could be attained with an Explorer. I think with simple bolt ons you could get the results you are looking for.

Also how you drive plays a big role in the milleage you get. If you are rompin' and stompin' all over town you are gonna get crappy milleage. Read aldive's thread about fuel milleage. He has some good stuff in there.
