Better Fuel Milage

Check my thread in my signature down below in my signature to see some of my fuel saving modifications.

I have installed an electric fan in place of the fan clutch and installed an underdrive pulley on the crank shaft so the accessories turn slower.

I can easily get 23-24 on highway trips.

The fan seems great but slowing the accessory belt down? How does that effect everything like the alternator amperage output and water pump cooling capabilities? Power steering power?

Typically you'll get a smaller alternator and water pump pulley (spins them faster) to keep things at the default levels. It'd be nice if they had smaller power steering pump pulleys because they don't seem to groan at higher rpms.

There are no adverse affects from under driving the power steering, water pump and A/C compressor. The performance of them all are just the same as before I installed the under drive pulley.

The only adverse affect is from the alternator. I had to install a over drive pulley on the alternator to keep the voltage up to spec for my e-fan.

I live in the Dallas, and even in stop and go city traffic on a hot summer afternoon, the water pump and A/C have no problem keeping my and the engine cool while under driven.

You will only have to plug off the port on the engine side where you un-plug it. Nothing else has to be plugged except the part that sucks. I un-plugged mine at that odd junction where theres about 6 hoses plugged in and I used an old chunk of hose with a bolt stuck in in to cap off the port on the engine. Otherwise you could unplug it by by those two boxes somewhere I suppose. Be careful, the danger here is knocking loose other hoses! I only know about all this because one day I had a terrible hissing sound, which was a hose that came off.

So I have a loose hose just wrapped up from those two boxes that's not plugged, it was like that when I bought it! and I plugged it in for a while and got terrible gas mileage. let me know if yours is hooked up and what it does!!

Ok, mine is hooked up, but, the one that runs to the throttle body runs into a sensor right before the little canister thing, it has a Tee connected to a sensor. I'm not sure what it is or if I should even unplug it, did you'rs have that? I unplugged it while running and it didn't seem to run any worse, but I'm not sure about unplugging it.

my sensor is still plugged in, I don't know what it does. I'd be curious to know if that would help at all having it un-plugged. I would guess if the check engine light doesn't come on then it would be okay

Cool, I will give it a shot then. Seems to be doing a lot better after the oxygen sensor( BTW, I have heard there were three o2's but I can only find one on mine - - maybe just the SOHC?) and re-gapping the plugs (for some odd reason I gapped them at .050 what my ld car required LOL). I drove it 100 miles today to work (round trip) and it seemed to do great, and I didn't run out of gas.

good!! Mine checked out at 19.5 mpg today on 200 miles of highway driving

Hey maybe you would know what's squeaking in my accessory belt. It's mostly during the first 5 minutes, it has come and gone a lot but very consistent lately. My alternator was professionally re-built, new tensioner, newer bearing in idler. Power steering pump seems to be it's normal whiney self and ac spins fine. No coolant/oil leaking. It has left me to believe it's my fan-clutch assembly slipping or something. it's getting rather annoying. help?

Got 275 miles on the clock and still haven't run out of gas........ However, my X ran like total crap today, like worse than crap, I started a new thread in this section with what I found....
