97 sport 4.0L SOHC
I have a 97 explorer sport 4.0 SOHC and it is back firing consistantly when u accelerate. It only does it when u are accelerating. I took it in to a mechanic and he found a vacume leak on the intake and changed the gaskets. It didn't solve the backfiring problem, but it did fix my rough idle at cold start. I put the computer back on and there were no more codes reading. My mechanic put it on a lift and tried to get it to do on the lift, but it wouldn't do it. It only does it when the car is under a load. I've changed the plugs, wires,, pcv valve, ignition module, air filter, fuel filter. I checked the EGR system and all the volts read fine and resistance is all fine. After doing all that, i'm begining to wonder if it isn't the timing chain. It rattles when cold start. I'm really stumped and have no idea what could be causing it to back fire under load. I really could use some oppions on what might be causing it.

what is the fuel pressure when you accelerate??

what is the spark plug firing voltage??
