I have a quick question for those that have completed the swap. What did you do for a "check engine" light? I have simplified the 4.0 wiring down to just 3 relays, 2 fuses, 3 ground wires, 1 red/green (power feed) and a red/white. I pulled the drivetrain from a 93 "X", if that helps any and it is now in my 84 BII. :D Yeah, it runs ( ask the neighbors... I live 3 miles from town, and got a visit from a couple of them last night... something about "noise" )

I think they sound cool without exhaust too... lol. Ill watch this bk i havent wired in a cel either, so basically i need the same answer

Well, I can almost sign off on the 4.0 swap. I simply need to figure out which wires from the ECU need to be run for a "CEL" and then I can turn this thing loose. ANY ideas from the folks here????

Okay. After much ignoring of my request, and finally being able to chase the "CEL" from the bulb on the instrument panel, through the wiring of the dash, etc... I have found that the pink wire with the light/lime green trace is the actual "CEL" trigger. It is the number 10 pin location on the firewall connector, under the hood. I believe it needs to be connected to a 15 amp fuse, going by the way it is wired in the fuse panel, and then tied back into the big red/green trace main power feed. A power up test on the harness seems to confirm this, so far. the "CEL" wire is in the brown connector, that goes on the inner fender, so that you have a better idea of where, exactly, to look for it in the rest of the wiring harness. I used the "firewall" side of the connector to get my "lead" wire to work with, and simply extracted the unneeded wires to help clean up the appearance of the connector. Also, on the wiring for the fuel pump, I left about 16" of the yellow/white trace wire for the sending unit, since I still have to deal with the gauge issue.

Im sorry man i was kinda waiting on how this was gonna play out myself, good info. After doing the swap im kind of sick of staring at the wiring diagram myself. Your always cool to bounce stuff off me by pm, cant promise i can answer a lot of the time

janderson, please do not think that I was complaining about you, personally. I simply was venting a bit about something that I thought that other folks might have figured out, and simply didn't want to share the info on. No harm meant.

would be nice if you could give us a wiring diagram or a play-by-play of the swap. :D

Okay. I will go ahead and draw up the wiring for this project, then. It might be a few days until I can post it, as we have a BIG local event going on currently, and I have been "volunteered" to help with "our" (her) salesbooth.

Well, I am currently trying to learn how to use "photoshop" for the upcoming pictures that I promised. I am also doing a step by step on a second harness that I have, to show exactly what you need, and a diagram. A friend of mine is helping me with this mess, so hopefully, sometime this weekend I will be posting this stuff. Thanks for all of the patience for this, gang. I hope that this will help other people out.

did you ever get a diagram made? im wiring retarded, had to stumble through the wiring on my bII, took me about a week. like to have a cel though.

Sorry. I got sidetracked and forgot about this. I will try to get back to it this week, hopefully.
