DCider; Excellent torque numbers!!! I really appriciate you taking the time and $$$ to do an objective study. I,ve been monitoring my fuel milage for three weeks now and will post my MSD DIS4 ignition results tomarrow.

David,

Those numbers look really good. If the headers add 10% the it looks like you may be getting close to 200 hp at the flywheel- decent gains over the stock 160.

Could you give us a little more info on your vehicle? Mileage on the engine, and gear ratio and tire size, transmission type.

Thanks great information!

I made it over to the Mustang Ranch this am to get my baseline Dyno run on there DynoMax chassis duno done before the JBA headers got installed this weekend. Sorry we are in the middle of a move and I don't have access to a scanner right now so I'll give a summary of the results as best as I can. These are reading taken at the rear wheel with and approximate %25 loss from the engine.

Max Power - 143.2 @4500 rpm
Max Torque - 269.4 ft-lbs @ 2200 rpm (right where I need it for wheeling)

The torque curve drops fairly linearly from 2200 to 5200 rpm to about 132 ft-lbs.

The horsepower curve is fairly flat. I makes over 125hp from about 2925 rpm to 5200 rpm.

The fuel air ratio was within the preferred 13 to 13.6 range over the 2200 to 5200 rpm range.

The 2nd run was not quite right with a sift point that was not hit for the 3rd gear run (my fault). The 1st and 3rd runs were almost identical (the 3rd run hitting the 3rd gear @ 2200 and the over rev to 5200 rpm from the Superchip).

It looks like the injectors are providing the right mixture of gas (not replaced as far as I know). Joe commented that it looks like the mods that are done/in process are the right ones to do for performance work. In his opinion, the JBA headers that I'm installing are his pick for the best headers to use, although they are expensive.

I'll get another run in about a week or 2 after the headers are installed and let everyone know what is is and also post the current dyno run when I get access to a scanner again.

I have a few other ideas to see what/if they make a difference. Like switching to the Bosch Plat 4+, also going back to the stock airbox with a K&N filter, a matched set of injectors and a new fuel pressure regulator, a different muffler... We'll see how time and money lasts on this endevour.

Dcider; where did you go? What's the word on the hedders? I posted my MSD results (although my milage has inched up a little->15MPG) since I posted. Let us know how it turns out.

Sorry for the delay in posting more info (many changes at work as well as companies Dead Link Removed ).

The trip to/from NorCal gas mileage was:

up from the Hwy 505/5 juntion to Redding: 18.97

back from Redding to 505/5 junction: 21.86

The trip back was sfter the headder install. It was not a trivial install on the 128,000+ Explorer. And that was with an experienced mechanic, air tools, torch, snap-on tools out the yang... I will write a review and send it to Rick in the next few days.

It looks like the around town milage is the same if I'm on it and much better if I'm easy on the gas. It look slike I'm getting about 20-50 miles more Dead Link Removed to the same point on the gas gauge. Right now I don't have multiple milage reports to back this up with numbers, this is the first rough cut and it looks good. YMMV.

Not much louder than stock either. I wanted to get a new dyno run but they are booked before I leave for Vegas and I don't know my schedule starting next week at my new job. I will try to get the dyno run(s) done ASAP for those interested besides myself.

Well I filled up again tonight. With a mix of surface street commuting, a few highway miles as well as highway parking lot (Bay area Kalifornia), i was just off the red on the empty side and the trip meter was reading 323.2 miles. The last time I got that good mileage to a tank was on all highway driving. The overall mileage for this tank was 17.17 mpg. Not bad for a mix of driving.

Need to make some time to get the next Dyno run. I plan on doing one run with the current S&B KKM intake. I also want to do a run with the stock airbox and the S&B drop in replacement filter that I picked up for $35 bucks on special @ truckperformance. If I have time, I may try to also get a run with a set of Bosch +4 plugs, but I think that might be pushing the time envelope.

I hope Rick can post the jpg of the dyno run that I sent him for this thread. I would put a link to it if I had it on a web site that I could link to...
