The truck seems to be having problems starting after sitting for a while. Starts well first time in the day, then depending on how long it has sat after first start of the day, there are issues.

I found this:
**************************
Make: FORD
Model: EXPLORER SPORT TRAC
Year: 2001

Service Bulletin Number: 15496
NHTSA Item Number: 630605
Summary Description:
SOME VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE APRIL 23, 2001 MAY EXHIBIT A HARD START/LONG CRANK AFTER SITTING FOR AN HOUR OR MORE DUE TO FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION. *TT
**************************

but it doesn't say anything of solutions.

If anyone has info /tips let me know.

search in this forum didn't net anything.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the fuel system needs to be flushed, and the filter replaced - maybe the pump needs to be either cleaned or replaced also.

Thanks for the reply, I now believe it's leaky injectors. With the big hose off the throttle body, when the butterfly valve is opened by hand, I can hear a whiney noise. This is probably the injectors leaking out fuel until the fuel rail is de-pressurized.
In turn over time the engine is flooded (with excess fuel), and causes the hard start condition.
