Hi, everyone. Hope you’re all well.

My engine is surging when at idle in and out of gear. When in gear, it sometimes dies, because of the load I assume. The engine runs well at higher rpms until I start to “coast,” and then sometimes it will die when moving.

I read through some of the posts here (thank you) and went ahead and replaced my PCV valve. That helped, but it didn’t last for long - maybe one month later and it’s back.

Anyone have any similar first hand experience they can relay? Thank you.

iac?

Have you checked for any trouble codes?

I’m not very familiar with the IAC, but I’ll try to look into it. Thank you.

I did pull the codes. It was all transmission related (I have the dreaded 2nd and 5th gear issue as well).

Also, I seem to be having issues quoting people's posts. Weird.

Change fuel filter as this can be over looked and not changed at correct intervals because of its position. Hard to get to and two covers and **** retaining clips on fuel lines . My explorer had extended services from new bye previous owners. I do full oils ,filters and universals on all second-hand 4×4s I bye. My Ford explorers fuel filter looked like it was full of mud when I split it open . No way in hell Ford had changed this at correct intervals. For the previous owner. Had a friend who worked for Holden GM service centre for 12 years and he told me they would take home service parts every day of the week for there cars. This is a cheap part to start with and see how you go ,run a injector cleaner after you change the filter. The second one to look at if problem continues is the air idle control Valve. This control's idle speed , cold idle up and down if it sticks or start to fail stuffs up all three. Look for any leaking pipes you can normally hear these. Clean mass air flow sensor with right spray. Don't use after market oiled air filters as this oil gets slowly pulled into the intake and this oil stuffs up the mass are sensor. Best of luck about 100 bucks if you do it yourself.
