Check out this thread!! Front timing chain tensioner failure. This is not a common failure but thought I would post the latest in my universe. -j

is this most likely the same cause of much noise in the regular 4.0L V6s? ive been having this problem forever but have never thought of disassembling and seeing what exactly is going on... tons of people report this noise as a "valve tap" but i dont believe thats it

The main difference between the v-8 & v-6 is that the timing chains on the six are on front and back. Whereas the v-8 have both chains on front. Most of the reported failures are only failures with the tensioners and not guides. But either way if I were to replace the tensioners I would replace all the guides as well.-j

i see... because plenty of people have reported the same problems from hearing chain rattle... seeing ur engine gutted finally shows me where exactly the noise is comming from so i appreciate the pics... if it wasnt such a pain to get to all that i would consider doing it
