4 inch suspension lift what else needs to be done?

I just bought a 2000 X sport with an ohv 4.0. Because of the difference in the steering setup between the trailmaster/Superlift 4in susp lifts I 'm going with the superlift. Whats the largest tire size I can go with that would look right yet function with the stock gearing. The present tire size is 255/70/16. Also I'm looking at a $2300 price tag on the kit w/install and alignment,is this something I can attempt myself or is it better left to them and are new drive shafts required. One last ? any ideas on what warranties this will void cause the vehicle is covered until 75,000 presently at 37,000. THANKS

You can fit a variety of tire sizes. If you want to keep your current wheels, a 285/75/R16 or a 295/75/R16, and a 305/70/16 may fit as well. If you want to go with a 15, a 33x12.50 will fit nicely.

If you have 4.10 gears than any of those tire sizes will be acceptable.

You will need a new front drive shaft, and if you do a spring over, you might need a new rear one, the topic is up in the air right now. If you use the leaf pack supplied with the kit, then no you won't need a new one.

I am unsure of your mechanical ability, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if you should install it or not. I would rate this job a 3 out 5 for toughness.

my stock gears are 3.46 in an 8.8 axle according to the code. I would like to do as much possible to help it's off road ability without losing all of its hard road mannerism cause this is my daily driver. Would this gearing make it a dog with a bigger tire?

What's your axle code? I wasn't aware that there was a 3.46.

the axle code is 42. I was told by the mechanic here at the plant that code comes back as a 3.46 I havent double checked it. I did look on the axle tag but the #'s on it dont seem right either. At least any gearing I've ever heard of.

42 is a 4.10. Get a new mechanic.

I think older Ranger 7.5 or 8.8s had an axle code of 42 which was a 3.45

you are correct it is an open diff 4.10 by code. I took it to a local shop that switchs them over to limited slip and for some wierd reason it already is a ls???????? so either the factory screwed up with the door code or the previous owner had already addressed it,,,,,,, either way saved me some bucks.
