Hello All
Hope someone can ID this problem, every once in a while, when the engine is hot, after shutting down for a few minutes, I re-start and get a rattling from the engine. Other times, especially a cold engine, it sounds fine ??????????

Welcome. Do a search on timing chain tensioner. Just a thought.

Is the sound from the motor itself, or from the truck in general? It could be almost any thing rattling. I would start small. Try and single out where the noise is coming from. For instance: When it makes the noise, open the hood and see if it gets louder. If not, climb under the truck and look to either side if the motor. it may be a catalytic converter heat shield. I hope it's that. Or it could be the timing chain tensor. :thumbdwn: This is where a good stethoscope is handy. Good luck!

If you don't have a stethescope, use a long screwdriver or even a long extension socket and place on engine. And then place your ear up against it. you can even put your thumb over end, then ear. Works great. I have a stethoscope and still use the screwdriver thing. If its closer HA HA

Thanks guys, the heat shield it isn't, clacking is from the motor area. gotta be the cam chain tensioner. lemonaid for trucks advises the same problem.

I will use the other area of the forum for ALL the other problems.

got the same problem its the timing chain tensioner, just too lazy to take the entire thing apart to fix it right now. damn canadian winter lol
