4 wheel drive isn't working in my 1994 Ford Explorer. Any ideas as to why?

I remember several times while camping or trail riding with the Explorer crowd that someone's transfer case quit shifting. Removing the shift motor and twisting the input always worked.

I did not hear any click as well and it was the shift motor, not the module. As many said before me, first try: shift motor (no need to buy a new one, just rebuild it).
