I noticed on my way home today that both 4 wheel drive lights were flashing every few minutes. When i put the truck into 4 wheel drive high the corresponding light did not turn on. I do not see or feel a diference in the way the truck drives. Is this some thing i should have professionally looked at or just let it go and see what happens?

the truck is a 97 explorer sport.

before you try anything else try reseting the battery(pull neg. plug for more then 20 minutes)...that fixed mine.

The system detected a fault. It flashes the lights to tell you so. Unfortunately, an average code reader will not be able to read the codes as they are stored on the GEM. The three most common problems that cause that are the front and rear output shaft speed sensors on the transfer case, or the rear axle speed sensor (not likely on a 97). Without a scanner, it's a guessing game at best. It could be a whole lot of other things too... no way to know for sure without that code.

Good luck!

ok thank you for the help. i was making sure to watch it today and not once did eirth of them flash and when i turned on 4 wheel high the light came on like normal. i am starting to think that it is more of a wire connection and it jsut happed to cause the fault. last night was the first time it ever happened so im not exactally sure what is wrong with it. and i will try and have it checked by a code reader i have access to one that can check for that.
