I have 99 explorer sport 2wd 5-speed manual, my friend has a 99 explorer sport 4wd manual in his back yard that is shot(bad body and engine) but the drive train is good and clean is there any way i could install that on my 99 explorer sport?

Yes. Start swapping parts.

Really sweet so the drive train and all will just bolt on no modifications?

Yeah. You'll have to swap the driveshafts, tranny, tcase, front differential, knuckles and CVs. Is the transfer case a manual shifting one? That would make things a lot easier.

yeah my friends transmission is a 5-speed manual just like mine except his is a 4x4

(all other things being equal) It might actually be easier to swap your motor into his truck than swap everything from his truck to yours... You'll need the trans, t-case, mounts, front driveshaft, front axle, CV halfshafts, knuckles, brake rotors, anchor plates (I think) possibly brake lines, GEM, and some associated wiring harnesses... IMHO, it'd be a lot less headaches to simply pull your motor and stuff it under his hood. (again, all other things being equal)

The question that section525 asked was "is your friends transfercase a manually shifted one or is it an "auto" shift?.
It is an important question because if your donor vehicle has the "auto" 4-WD system,(as suspected) you will need the wiring harnesses and the GEM module from the donor truck and install all of that as well as the rest of the drivetrain components.
That is basically why section225 asked that question and the reason behind what gijoecam said about it being easier to put your engine in the donor truck.

If it's a 99 as he stated in the original post, it's a 44-05. To my knowledge, they never made a manual case of any sort in a second-gen Explorer.

yea sounds like that would be easiest ill prob swap engine and just change some of the fenders then put some fresh paint on it thank you all, and yes its a shift on the fly , i thought he asked if it was a manual tranny

I was also thinking of putting a 87 Ford Ranger Diesel engine in it but i dont think the tranny would mount to it so it would have to be custom, its one of my future projects

If you were to go the manual transfer case route (bw1354) that would eliminate the need for changing the gem and some wiring but would be much easier as stated to swap your motor and any body/interior parts to his truck.

Would the AWD drive system work without having to add any switches inside or shifters? or are they only automatic transmissions?

automatic transmissions
the 4R70W automatic, to be more precise

Yes for simplicity you can only use an automatic transmission there was only 1 5spd swap in an 5.0 explorer on this site and took alot of modifications. And yes using an awd transfer case does not require any wiring on computer change.

maybe this is a stupid question....but couldnt you just run a lead to the front drive shaft clutch or whatever?

kinda like doing the opposite of the brown wire mod? just make it so you have an on off switch for the front drive shaft. its an electric clutch right? on and off. so you just supply the required amperage and it should engage right? i dont quite understand why he needs the computer from the 4x4 truck.

He needs the computer because it shifts the t-case from high to low unless he were to make a manual mechanical mechanism to switch it then he could do the bwm and supply power to the clutch.

i totally forgot about the shift motor for low range

No you cannot put the awd transfer case on the 5r55e or 4r55e it has to be on the 4r70w so if you want V8 then you can.
