So my 1993 Explorer sport started having itermitant problems shifting into 4 wheel drive. Sometimes I would hit the button and just hear like a clicking noise from the back of the truck and the 4 wheel would not engage, other times, I would hit the button and it would go into 4 wheel no problem. Well, I bring it to the shop and they say it was just the Sending Unit? which was corroded and they cleaned it all up. I use the truck for a while and it seemed to go into 4wheel the one or two times I tried it, then back to the same thing. Now, it will not go into 4 wheel. Every time I hit the button, I just get the clicking noise and it will not engage. So I bring it back to the shop and now they are saying that they believe it is some motor in the transfer case that has gone bad and that it will cost $750 to fix?????

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Does anyone know if this is a fair price, seems very high to me. Does anyone know of a reputable and fair priced shop in the Richmnond VA area that is familiar with the Expolerers and won't put me in the poor house over every repair.

Thanks
Mike

Sounds like your shift motor needs to be taken off your truck and the contacts cleaned.Do a search it has been done lots of times:D
