45mph whine - woob woob woob noise

I finally pinpointed the noise the midship portion of the Explorer and put it on jack stands. I felt the rear end and could feel the vibration so i knew i found the problem. I picked up a 40,000 mile rearend from a buddies yard for $150 and now it drives smooth as silk. It almost makes me want to ditch my '93 for it, not quite but almost.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but i figured i would update since i fixed it.

p100ki,

Did your sound go away when you turned the wheel - mine goes away when i turn right - that's why i suspect that it may be in the front of the truck.

Congrats on getting your noise to go away, however after a 3200 mile trip on my Ex I am determined to fix this noise before I drive back next May.....arghhhhhhh

Cheers, Roger :salute:

Maybe your Explorer just "wuvs" you :D

LMAO

That's a great quote!

Now I need to go clean the spilled water from my keyboard and nasal passages....

I'n my experience if it goes away when you turn it's a wheel bearing. Every wheel bearing i've had go bad has had that symptom.
