Just curious who else has a high mileage 4R55E with no issues. Our late 95 (reg says 96) recently rolled over 200K miles, and the transmission still appears to have zero issues. I'm crossing my fingers that it stays the same.

Vehicle was purchased used with 110K miles by my dad about 10 years ago from a friend of his. Friend was the type to take the vehicle to Ford dealer for all scheduled maintenance. Once we had it, pan dropped & filter changed twice during that time.

Last year dad decided to give the vehicle to my wife and I, and I did a complete fluid replacement through the cooler lines at 190K using a Costco case of Chevron Mercon V. Proceeded to drive to Montana and back (about 1500K miles) with zero issues, shifted great across three mountain passes each way.

The most it has ever towed is a 20ft horse trailer, otherwise just pulls our small bass boat. Both dad and I tend to drive the vehicle with OD off in town, only switching it on when on the freeway, to avoid hunting in 4th at low speeds (e.g. 40-50mph).

I am considering adding a secondary cooler, but wondering if it's sort of too late in the game for that to really make much of a difference.

Shifts are still precise and firm, no bizarre flaring, OD or lockup behavior.

This does not match up with all the horror stories I always heard about the A4LD based transmissions.

I am a somewhere over 195k miles on my 5R55E, and have not had any issues; and I live where it is very hilly/mountainous (western Montana). I have had this truck for over 8 years now, and put ~115k miles on it. I have taken it across the country and back multiple times, sometimes putting 1200+ miles of road behind me at highways speeds per day while loaded up.

As far as I know, the trans fluid has never been changed/flushed, and at this point, I'm afraid it'd do more harm than good. I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing, and hope it lasts a few more years.

It is rare when a 4R exceeds 200k without any service, at least from what I noticed, but hey. Take care of something and it will last forever.
