At this point I should probably know this, but was a 5 speed automatic trans at all available on 1995 models? I strongly assume that I have the A4LD, but I swear I feel 5 gears in there. Can anyone tell me how I'd know for SURE what trans I've got...and/or explain why I "feel" five gears? Am I mistaking something the trans is doing as a 5th gear? It shifts fine and was just rebuilt 16K miles ago, so the issue isn't a problem....just intriguing. Thanks!

4.0 95-96 uses the 4R55E (A4LD with electronics)
4.0 (OHV and SOHC) 97 - current uses the 5R55E (similar to 4R55E, but uses the OD and 1st to create a 2nd gear for a total of 5 gears)

Perhaps what you're feeling is the Torque converter lock up after you hit 4th. Under hard acceleration this could easily be mistaken for a gear.

Gracias, 'boss.'
