4th Gen Tail lights on 3rd Gen X?

Im pretty sure ive heard of this being done....but not 100%. anyone done this before.. if so, any mods? pics?

its a direct swap...

search for ( Tylers02 ) they look great on his murdered X

Yep....can be done. You'll have to add light sockets for the upper lights though.

I've been wanting to go to a junk yard to do this they look great. any tips on how to rip them out and how much wiring you need?

If you go to a junkyard just get all the light sockets from the 06-08. That way u'll have everything you need.

Don't hold your breath I wanted to go to the junk yard for some new rims for about a month and maybe a mark fan if I can find it. I work and am normally only free on Sunday so I'm not sure if they are open or where a junkyard is around me. Though I sure want to go get these lights soon. I'll see if i can move up the junker date.

I hear you man! Been wanting the 4th gen tails but been out of work since January so no cash for the "goodies". Did you check out the link in my last post? Tylers02 got his tails with all sockets, etc. from eBay for $100 shipped. They are out of an '09.

I'm gonna have to check those out I'm wondering how much they would cost from a junkyard. Do they come with all the wires needed minus the extra socket
one of the op's talked about.

I know that around here the junkyards don't let you pick-a-part on the late models. Only the mid 90's and older. So I'm guessing that if I were to get them at the junkyard they probably wouldn't have the sockets or anything else, just the light assembly. I don't know how the junkyards operate in You Guess, NY (lol!!)

-I've discovered ebay probably is the best place to buy some of these parts from other generations of explorers. My local junkyards, do not have any explorers above the second generation. Even when I was looking at parts for my 98 X, they didnot have anything above 2001.
-I need a few things from a 02-05 X, but haven't gotten any because there are none in the junkyard.
-I will say on my 98 X, my driver seat broke, and cash for clunkers helped out there, got a good condition drivers seat.
-Also, the 06-10 explorer just mainly had a exterior and interior refresh...not much else changed. So the 02-05's are very similar.
-Try the junkyards first, since taillights generally run $200 a pair on ebay.
