Salutation du Canada -Greetings from Canada
First day of retirement for me after 36 years at same job. And to boot, President Obama came to MY country today. God bless him :-)
Looking for help on an issue with my 2001 Explorer XLT - 4WD lights Hi & Lo switching on and off intermitenly. Hope this is just an electrical issue. Any ideas ?

Welcome. The 4high/4low flashing lights is an indication of a malfunction in the transmission and/or transfer-case. Many times it is only a dirty or failed speed sensor on one of the wheels but your best bet is to take it in to a transmission shop or a shop that can perform full-computer diagnostics, not just a code-reader. This will eliminate the guess work and keep you from just throwing parts at it

As mentioned, the only way to know for sure what the issue is would be through a thorough diagnostic scan. The technician needs to be able to view the GEM PID's (inputs and outputs) and the GEM DTC's (trouble codes) to know what the system is detecting and why it's blinking the lights. Any dealership should be able to do it, and many independent shops should also have the capability to do it as well. A few phone calls should turn up someone willing to work at half the price of the stealership.

Good luck!

4W HI and 4W LO

Following one of the prescribed remedies, I actually unplugged my battery and re-connected it, and lo and behold, the 4W HI and 4W LO stopped flickering all together. Thank you very much for that simple solution to try prior to spending enourmous $ to have the garage do exactly the same thing.:)
