2001 Ford Explorer XLT
I know there have been several threads reguarding similar issues, however I am starting to lose my mind trying to come to a reasonable solution to this problem.

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer XLT with currently a little over 137k miles. The car has been problem free since I bought it used back in 2004 when it only had 79k miles. Regular maintinence, oil changes, new tires & brakes as needed, nothing but your basic vehicular TLC.

A few weeks ago I noticed the 4WD High and 4WD Low lights would start flashing 6 times every 2-3 minutes. At the same time my power windows as well as my sunroof/moonroof stopped functioning.

I have checked the Accessory Delay Relay under the dashboard by swapping out the one on my Explorer with the one from my Mom's 2000 Explorer Eddie Bauer.
- No change.

I have tried checking the fuses in the fuse bank on the drivers side dash panel.
- No change.

I have tried taking the drivers side door panel off to check the wiring into the window switches.
- No sign of wire fatigue or disconnection.

I believe my next step in trying to regain 4WD is to check and possibly replace the Speed Sensor above the rear differential. If no change I will try checking and repair/replacing (if necessary), the Transfer Case switching motor.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how I can go about trying to fix these two issues?

try checking the connections on the PCM on the radio (check the brown wire mod thread for details on how exactly to get to it) and make sure your connections arent dirty.

i noticed that when the module on my 97 went out the widows quit working as well. all the wire for the door controls and most of the dash controls are routed through that module. kind of a lame design but then again its ford lol.

also check your alternator, make sure its keeping the system charged correctly. when my alt went out the entire truck quit working, windows, seats, mirrors, headlights, literally everything quit working.

I can't believe this...

I HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM!

Inside the Power Distribution Box under the hood are all the Maxi and Mini fuses as well as other relays.

Both my 4WD HI AND LOW engage as well as the power windows work perfectly.

The issue was Maxi Fuse #4 in the Power Distribution Box. The 30A Maxi fuse had blown, due to what I suspect was loading while having a technician test my alternator.

Either way, the problem is solved, I'm happy!

Carry on explorer enthusiasts!

Cheers! :salute:
