Hey gang ,
My 94 Ex , is making a whining sound in the front end when in 2wd, I kick it in 4wh the noise goes away but when it engages sometimes the left front Kluncks but is fine after that , is it possible that its not disengaging all the way ?? the 4wd works well other wise so im a bit puzzled

THanks
Jay

Yes, it is possible that it is not engaging/disengaging properly. I had the same problem. My left hub would not always disengage fully and it would make a ratcheting sound. It finally got really bad and the left would engage all by itself, usually when making a turn. Some have reported success with cleaning out the excess grease in the hub, or pouring ATF into it to clean it out. I tried this, but apparently something in the hub eventually broke. When I engaged 4WD, it would go BANG and the steering wheel would shake.

The best fix is to convert to manual hubs. They are reliable and easy to install. Or, you might be able to find a used, but functional, auto hub. New auto hubs are very expensive.

do all you can so that you don't have to put on new auto hubs. i had to put on a new set of auto hubs on my 94, mainly for the convenience and the fact i don't use them all the time, and it cost like $1,200 to get the two hubs and front bearings replaced!!!NOT fun.

Well I pulled the driver side wheel off pulled the center cover off and one gear for the 4wd Fell off in pieces so the auto hubs are shot :( I havent looked at the passenger side as of yet but im sure its toast too . Im gonna look into the manual locking hubs . fun fun
