4wd help

i have a buddy with a 98 ford ranger and for some reason it wont engage in 4wd. the light on the dash comes on and it gears down to low when in 4-low. but it seems to me that the hubs are not engaging. does anyone know where we can start looking for the problem such as fuses,shift motors etc... any help would be great thanks!

...I am currently helping a friend of mine with this very problem...The best thing you can do is get a set of these...I have shopped them and this is the cheapest I could find and they will end his hub problem for good...

140.00$ isn't a bad deal at ALL!!!

BUT...I still don't get it...I use my 4wd multiple times every day, and I've yet to have a problem.

My brother, my dad, my father in law, mother in law, etc. all have Ford's with the same 4WD system and no one ever has a problem.

Maybe our 4WD systems just get a good workout and hence no problems?

i agree. you cant go wrong with manual hubs. thanks tbars!
