Hi guys, winter's coming & I need some help / advice.
I have a 1996 UK spec Explorer 4.0 SOHC which I think has the later 4wd system.
I know the 4wd & low ratio worked last winter, but when I tried to use 4wd hi a few weeks ago in a wet muddy field only the rear wheel would drive.
I was towed out by a tractor (how embarrassing!!) & started driving along the road. Ihad forgotten to switch back to Auto & about 200 yards along there was a "gnashing" sound from underneath. I stopped & switched to Auto as per the book, the noise stopped & I made it home. There were no obvious signs of damage or leaks underneath.
Now I'm worried about this ...... Is the transfer case / 4wd system destroyed or terminally damaged ????
I was about to service it & change ALL the drive & diff fluids, but won't bother if it needs all new parts ?
T.I.A for any advice on this,
Gary.
