4wd pops out and in

I have a 2003 sport trac, after being in 4wd high for about 5-10 minutes driving in the city, the 4wd will disengage and engage speratically. I pulled the transfer case (BW-1354) out and inspected all the gears, and shift forks. everything looks good inside. What else could cause this?

The shift motor. Mine did this when I was at Moab. Had to use a wrench to put the truck into 4 low
