I have a 97 explorer v6 xlt. The biggest problem I am having is that when I turn the wheel somewhat sharp I get a Clunking sound. Almost acts like im turning with it in 4wd? Could it be going in and out of 4wd on its own? Why would it be doing this on dry pavement? Also after testing it out in 4wd today I put it back into auto. When I started driving it the o/d off light started flashing and it wouldn't go into o/d. I tried pushing O/D button, but it wouldn't shut off. I finally disconnected the battery and after I reconnected it the light went off and it started shifting fine. FInally the the 4wd high and low lights have been flashing on their own, any idea what might be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

On the sharp turn the 4x4 was probably kicking in (if it was happening while in Auto). The sequence and number of the flashes are a code for the t/fcase error. 6 flashes repeated every couple of minutes is a speed sensor issue. If the speed sensors are dirty/broken they will give false readings and will cause the 4x4 to engage improperly

I replaced the speed sensor on the back of the transmission and disconnected the battery for 5 minutes. When I put everything back together the problem went away for a couple of hours. Now its back. Is there more than one sensor? Could anything else cause this?

Tranny Trouble

Also I am having trouble with the over-drive on this truck. Sometimes it will go into over-drive and sometimes it won't. I have heard it could be the voltage regulator that is causing this? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
