4wd question???

quick question about the difference between 4wd on the fly and 4wd>all wheel drive. which is better? and why? 'm looking into buying a 97 xlt v8 w/5.0, the explorer has 4wd all wheel drive. is it better to have the option (switch) of 4wd hr lr and 2wd hr lr, or is it better to have the all time all wheel drive? your help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome! It all depends on what kind of driving you do. If it's mainly for foul weather conditions on paved roads.. then the V8 AWD is the way to go. However, if you'll be wanting to do some hardcore offroading... you'll want an Explorer with a selectable case.

To most people, the reliabilty, and power of the V8 exceeds the need for 4low.
