i have heard that certain years of ranger 4x4 drivetrain will match up on sport tracs. i have a 2005 xlt 2x4 but i wanna convert it to 4x4. and i can get the drive train from a 2001 4x4 ranger for cheap. will it match up or ...? if not what will? also will the manual on a 4.0L ranger match up to my 4.0L i would also like it stick. any help would be appreciated. thanks

There's really just too much to change in addition to the drivetrain. There's wiring/sensors/programming. Sell your 4x2 and buy a 4x4 and you'll be much happier in the end. IMO.
 












The Ranger's 4.0L and Sport Trac 4.0L should be the same. So yes the transmission should bolt up. And it makes it easier to convert if it's a manual transmission and manual transfer case.
 












They probably should match up in the front. But who knows about the rear. There is no guarantees. Go take some measurements. Anyways, drive shafts can be shortened or lengthened.
