Ok after a few usefull hints here, i was able to fix halve my prob with the automatic shift motor.
I replaced it with a working one (junk yard $40) and it shifts from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. and even the lights come one the one on the switch and the one on the dash.

BUT !! i see no lights come on when i press the low range button, is there a light? for the low range or...do i still have a problem?

How can i check if i am in high or low 4x4?.

search before asking !

Ok OK i get the idea i should have searched this site before i asked.

There is nothing wrong with my low range, All i had to do was put the car in neutral hit the brake pedal and press the button.
The light came on telling me the low range had engaged.

and it was right here under my nose, just didnt see it due to all the oil and grease from replacing the shift motor.

:exporange

 Glad to hear you got it working. The 4x4 low shift will only work if the tranny is in neutral and your speed is under 3mph. You actually don't need to have the brake pedal depressed as it isn't part of the 4x4 low shift. BTW make sure to engage 4x4 at least once a month to keep it moving and prevent it from getting "frozen" from lack of use. If this happens just lightly tap the outside of the shift motor with a rubber hammer to jar it back into working...
