- 1991 XLT
Hi all, this is my first post, I have a 1991 Ford explorer XLT, I have had idling problems for the past two years and have replaced about evrey sensor in the truck with no solution, even the IAC valve and computer. On top of that my speedometer was not working either. I allso had a problem with my head light switch, I had replaced the headlight switch a while back and it seemed to solve that problem, however I noticed that the headlight switch plug was melting a bit, but did not change it as it seemed to work fine. Well I finally decided to replace the headlight switch plug harness, took a few hours but all went well. The next day I noticed that my speedometer was now working ( smooth as silk ) and now I find the truck idling properly with the IAC valve working as it should. Now I know the speed sensor ( which I replaced about a year ago ) has some impact on the computer as to what kind of signals it sends to the IAC valve, so by changing this headlight switch harness I have solved numerous problems. When I phoned the Ford dealer to order the headlight switch I was surprised they had so many in stock, when I asked why he said the early Ford Explorers had problems with the headlight switch burnin/melting. The cost of the harness was 68.00 dollars. I hope this helps some of you who are having problems like I have had. Take Care.
