Hello,
I have a 1991 XLT with a 5 speed trans. For some time the 4X4 high indicator light does not illuminate when you hit the switch, but it does activate the transfer case. Then when you hit the 4X4 low button the lights come on. Although this doesn't effect the operation of the 4 wheel drive the only way to know it is disengaged is to unlock the hubs and have some one see if the front drive shaft turns.
The other day I was under the truck and noticed a switch or sensor on the left side of the transmission that has two green wires, which broken and the connector is gone. Does anyone know what this device is and if it is the cause of the 4X4 light failure?
