4x4 is engaged everytime I start the X and...

... disengages after half a mile. And then the 4x4high/low lights start blinking.

I had the blinking lights before after long highway trips and searched for that problem and found out that probably the speed sensors are causing that, but now this seems kinda weird.

I checked the transfer case fluid level and there was actually a little bit too much in there and is now even with the filler plug.

How do I know if the speed sensors are broken or if it is something else?

Is the shift motor the thing above the drain plug? could that be broken? How do I figure out?

I would appreciate any help or any link with help... (couldn't find anything with the search function)

oh and one more thing:

when the 4x4 is engaged after I started the car I can shift into 4x4high and the light comes up and I can even shift into 4x4low.

But when I get back to auto it is still in 4x4 (or least it feels and sounds like it) But the lights turns off!

After a mile the 4x4 is disengaged, the 4x4 hihg/low lights are flashing and I can't shift into either one anymore...
