i got a 98 explorer sport with about 85k on it. i was driving home the other day when all of a sudden my front end started vibrateing very badly like i was hitting a rumble strip. i thought maybe my 4x4 was trying to engage so i backed up and went forward. it went away, but as soon as i hit 20mph it started again and now its always there. i finished the drive home at 15mph with my front end still vibrating really bad and right when i got home i stopped then started again. so i definantly get the feeling that my 4x4 is trying to engage. thats what i think.......what you all think

i have no money to take it to a mechanic though i am pretty mechanically inclined. what issues do you think i have, what should i look out for, and how do i go about fixing it.

a buddy of mine told me i could just take the fuse out to the 4x4 and i could drive then fine......or i could just take the front drive shaft out and things would be cool for a little while. any cheap solutions like that?

I had a drive line speed sensor go bad on my 97 and it did that. One of the wires got a little nick in the insulation and was shorting to the case. I replaced it and all is back to normal. Probably could have repaired the nick with shrink tubing or electrical tape too but since I had it out I just replaced it!
