4x4 lights on panel go on and off

i bought a used '95 xlt about a week ago with 85,000 miles on it. I tried to use the 4x4 auto on a rainy night and after a while both 4x4auto and 4x4low lights, strarted to blink on and off! This is the first 4x4 vehicle that i buy and i don't know much about these stuff. Does any body knows what that means so i know what to look for or what to do? Thank you!

Looks like the speed sensors on the transfer case are due for replacement.
fairly easy job to do.

since you moved ur in-cab switch, i would first look at the shift motor - the shift motor is the most common reason for blinking 4x4 lights.

message #8 in the following thread describes how to check the shift motor (in bold "SHIFT MOTOR CHECK").

If the lights flash there should be a stored code that will guive you an idea of whats really going on.Someautozones will scan this for free, as will some other auto store.
