I have a 91 four door. OK my tran went out and i got that rebuilt, and two days later my 4x4 woundn't disingage. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the transfer case motor, so i got a new one and put that on. The man who worked on it told me that he put it on but the 4x4 drive won't turn on or off.Plus my ABS light is on and the parking break light is on.

If anyone out there knows anything about this things please tell me.
thanks,

I did get a computer to scan for any codes and none showed up.

Thanks,

As for your 4x4 motor, it has to know what position it is in. If it was installed and set between positions, it will not change. There is a switch inside it that will only allow it to work if it starts from one position or another...not in between. The easiest remedy you can try, disconnect your battery cable for a couple of minutes and then reconnect and try to engage/disengage. That should help it to find out what position it is in. As for the other lights, have no idea unless you have some pinched or disconnected wires. I would take it back to the shop that did the work and see what they have to say.

BTW, in most cases, the motor would not have needed to have been changed. They have a tendency to get dirt built up around them and then they don't want to work. You can spend a little time and clean it and usually that will take care of the problem. Check out this link and it will tell more about it. Dead Link Removed

What do Playboy and National Geographic have in common? Just a couple of the places I will never get to visit :(

The T-case motor is easy to remove. There are markings on the t-case housings and the motor as to position. Make sure each are in the same poistion.

You can turn the pawl on the t-case to change gears on the t-case, transmission in neutral.

Mine engages by itself! It may be the control module, but I haven't seen a signal going to the shifting motor. - Any Ideas???

Ditto Ira on the transfer case....

As for you parking brake light, check your fluid level in the reservoir. If the fluid gets below a certain level, the light comes on. This is the easy fix, so I hope that is it. Another area of concern may be the RABS processor. If that goes bad, ABS light comes on. I remember this same problem being discussed not to long ago, just not sure if it was on this board. Do a search and you may find it. Good luck.
