4x4 never used so now it doesn't work, HELP !!

I just bought a 98 Explorer a couple of months ago. Did have a 94. Wish I would have kept it. The last owner said he never used the 4x4. He should have gotten a 4x2 then. DUH! My 4x4 HIGH works fine but no LOW. What is wrong with it ?????

Most likely the shift motor is burnt out

Just to make sure is the X in nuetrel and the brake pedal depressed.

And make sure you're stopped.

Thanks for the helpful info. I guess I will start with cleaning the shift motor. Even if that's not the problem, it probably needs cleaning anyway.
