My 91 has been with the mechanic the last two days
trying to get the 4X4 working. When you press the
4X button no lights go on but it clicks in the back in
the rear cargo area. The transfer case motor has been replaced 2X. The Modulator? in the side panel of the rear
compartment has been replaced. All the wiring has been checked. He told me tonight that when he connects the
motor direct to the battery it activates. He also said it activates when he provides direct current to one of the wires that goes into the plug that goes to the modulator. Anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? I would appreciate any help
Thanks

When you activate the 4x4, put it on a lift and see if the front drive shaft spins. If it does, id get some new manual locking hubs.

The motor is not activating so the front drive shaft doesn't spin
Thanks

4x4 not working

I had the same problem with my 94'. I finally went to the u-pull-it yard and got a manual t-case and got rid of the electronics. That way I have control when it works and when it doesn't.

I'm not saying that this is whats wrong with your truck but the cheapest 4x4 problem I ever fixed was a open circut in the clutch switch to the 4x4 module. Dude was ready to spend a few hundered bucks on a module and shift motor computer. He was pretty happy that all the truck needed was a wiring repair :redexp:
