my 4x4 isnt working. its auto hub so i put it in 4x4 and crawled under, i turned the front axel and the drive shaft locked but the axel still spins, is that supposed to happen or is there a problem with the transfer case, also whe i turn my axel neither of the tires turn, is there a problem with my hubs too?

If your in 4x4 and the hubs are locked and you lift the truck up and turn the shaft and tires dont spin it sounds like the hubs are shot. Could be wrong though. Done brakes lately and put to much grease on the hubs? To much grease will cause them to fail.

It's mo difficult to trouble shoot by looking at the axles while spinning the tires. Do you know how a differential works? If you don't really have your head wrapped around it then don't trouble shoot it like that. I would start by cleaning your auto hubs, I like gas(no smoking) then soak them in ATF. Then drain and bolt them back on. They might just be sticking. Inspect the plastic wratchet pieces. They should look intact. That's what I'd do first off.
