Nice to know there is a place to find out about some of the complicated things cars have on them now a days. I love my 98 explorer but with 140,000 miles it is starting to have things go wrong and all but a few I have been able to handle myself. The main problem is to be able to use my 4 wheel drive and be able to get out of it. It gets stuck in 4 wheel and one time I had to drive around for about 5 miles stopping backing up an pulling forward slowly and then backing up until it finally let go. I think it is the switch but I don't know th first thing about it. Any Help. Geo from Tacoma WA.

It would be helpful if you could describe 'stuck' in a bit more detail... High range or low range? Does the light stay on or go out when you shift back to 4auto? Does the drivetrain continue to feel 'bound-up' when cornering after disengaging? what were the temps? moon phase? What did you have for dinner the day before ;) The more details you can give, the more accurate our help can be. :)

Welcome to the 'All you ever wanted to know about your Explorer and then some' site. :)
