Hi all
2003 ex limited 4.6
simptoms
4x4 hi flashing periodically.
Truck feels like its stuck in 4x4...not really sure
I can press 4x4 low when in neutral and hear two clicks/don't hear 4x4 engage/why I think its already stuck in 4x4/ 4x4 low light comes on
At this point I can press either 4x4 hi or auto and hear two clicks/4x4 low goes out but neither hi or auto lights up/I don't hear anything disengage/
checked the following
no codes
all fuses and relays related to 4x4 are fine
when turning the key both hi and low lights bulb test fine
pulled the control module/no apparent rust or corrosion. cleaned contacts
I haven't check the ground wire on the motor yet. Not sure where it is.
Now the bad. I had slightly larger tires on the truck when I got a flat and had to use the spare/ no knowing what the noise was/I now know I was hearing the transfer case clunking as I drove but only under hard acceleration/
Before I take this too the tranny shop/
Is their still a chance it's the module?
If not, I have access to a nice bay with all tools needed. Can I, should I attempt to change out/repair the transfer case? I've never worked on a tranny or 4x4 of any kind but know my way around the shop.
Thanks in advance for the tips. sorry for the long post.
