4X4 Troubleshooting

Does the dash switch need to be good in order to properly test the shift module? I pushed the test button and the light did not illuminate.

Yeah, if the buttons don't work, then no signal will get to the module, but do double check:

Ignition On.
Disconnect two rear electrical connections.
Push white button.
Watch LED.

If you've done all that and the LED still doesn't light up, then you've probably got a dead module.

Got the light flashing, previous owner removed the fuse. Got power to the shift motor, but the shift motor does nothing.

dose it click and not ingage if so try to hit the motor on the transfercase, this happened to me, if that dosent work, idk. just dont hit it to hard. there is a tread somewhere on here i just cant find it that helped me out.

The shift motor is doing absolutely nothing. Got down there with a test light and I have power coming into the center hole on the plug when the button is pushed.

If the bushing on the shift motor is broken, will that cause the motor to do nothing at all, or do you think the shift motor is bad?

You can try taking the motor apart and replacing the bushing with a piece of 1/4" vacuum hose. Check over the Shift Motor Rebuild thread and it will give you a step-by-step rundown of how to do it.

If the motor still doesn't work after that then you may need to replace it assuming that the other components are OK.
