4x4 wont disengage

92 Ford Explorer 4x4
I recently bought a 92 Ford Explorer and cant get my 4x4 to disengage which is a problem cuz im getting ready to move to georgia and need it out of 4x4 and into 2hi that way i can drive it on the interstate. If you know anything please let me know.

If you have the auto hubs, you need to back up a certain distance...
 






One common complaint is the shift motor getting old and dirty. It can usually be "rebuilt." (IIRC, instructions are in this forum or the useful threads forum). In a pinch, you can take the shift motor off and use a pair of pliers to rotate the shaft to 2H.
 






I read the instructions in this forum and understand what to do but i cant seem to locate the transfer case on my explorer i know it should be bolted behind the transmission and that the drive shaft should too but the only thing i see looks way to small to be a transfer case.
 






It should be right behind the transmission with a skip plat covering most of it so if you see a plate going between the frame rails it's right above that.
 






Here is a pic of the shift motor on the back of the transfer case.
