I have a 91 x Sport. When I press the selector to ingage the 4X4 I get Nothing!!! No lights! No click from the processor ! I checked all connections. I was able to apply 12v direct to the Tranfer case motor and and go from 4x2 to 4x4 low. I have checked continuity at transfer case motor pins and etc. I have also did the processor check! (Disconnecting both plugs, turning the key on and depressing the white test button. I get a solid light which indicates processor problems.????

Could it be something I have over looked!! Please advise!!

I hate to buy a new or used processor and that not be it.

Any Insist would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Jeff

What did you ever find out on your 4WD problem?

No luck yet!

The articles Tom Lynch refered me too by Dr.Bob and company is a good won.

I tried most of those checks before posting my thread.

I think its looking like a Processor or possible bad limit switches.

But, Still Inquiring....

had same problem. I pulled the little motor off the case and poped it open had some gum buildup on the contacts. I just cleaned the off and wala it shifts fine. just becarefull when you open it up i believe it has to be put back exactly otherwise you will be fiddling with it to get it to engage all the way.

Thanks, for the Input. A few days ago after a multitude of test I decided to pull the motor and clean the limit switches, brushes and etc. I also replaced the Shift processor (WHICH WAS BAD !)

All works fine know.

I'd like to thanks all of you who repled to my Thread!!

THANKS....... and happy motoring.....

Jeff

Yea, you might know it would be the expensive part. But I did finally get my hands on a Ford factory service manual with Elec/Vac also on cd-rom. It gives a lot of trouble shooting for all the 4WD 4x4 stuff. Still looks like my module also.

Where is that motor that you can pull off and clean without taking off the entire t-case? I looked at the post but not sure what I will be looking at under there. The whole big thing or what? driver, passenger, front, back, top , bottom.
I haven't had anyone ever teach me about auto work tought myself everything (not super but capable) along with what I read from you guys. Sometimes I get lost and need a broader picture painted for me before I can begin to determine if it is something I want to tackle. NO money right now but I need this fixed. Thanks for understanding and for someone always willing to help, even with the basics and seemingly dumb questions.

PS someone said hit it with a rubber mallet, where and what EXACTLY should I hit to try this quick finger-crossed fix?

was able to fix it

Hi all I was able to fix the 4x4 motor. It was very ez.
But I would first check out Dead Link Removed
This link was very helpful.
My motor had or has a broken magnet so I guessed I’d give it a try anyway
So I cleaned out all the broken magnet parts, cleaned the motor it self.
Put it all back together and it’s working good

I hit mine with a mallet on the big shiny silver cilinder that goes perpendicular to the drive train. after I did that, all worked well. I dunno, I must have jarred something loose?

Andy

also tryed hitting it

and thats how i think i broke the magnet

update

Well That did not last long.My 4x4 is not working again
but that ok i'll just get a new motor.
I guess i'd call that trouble shooting. Now i know it's the
Motor. and will pick one up next week. But i think i'll try the junk yards i know how to R n R them now.
Thanks all
