hey guys im tossing around the idea of dropping the 5.0 out of the explorer into my 84 svo mustang. the 2.3 lost oil pressure and spun a bearing. the explorer trans is gone so im trying to make one vehicle out of the two.

my question is would i be able to take hte wiring and engine out of the ex and put it into the 84 without much headache? the only thing im really worried about is the keyless entry and other system that the 84 doesnt have. as far as wiring it to the dash harness it should be easy b.c i have mostly all external gauges. so i only would have to run the tach wire and the wires for the idiot lights. and possible the cruise control if i wanted that as far as i know. if there is anything that would prevent me from doing this please let me know

hopefully you guys can chime in and let me know wat to look out for or if i should just get an a9l computer and wiring harness from a 89-92 mustang

thanks in advance

Honestly it'd be much easier to put a Mustang engine in it. Your 98 Explorer has the P heads which to my knowledge no one makes Mustang headers to fit the P heads. You will have to stick with ECM from an Explorer since they have DIS.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!

There are a couple 2.3T's on eBay right now for cheap!

You are going to be VERY SORRY someday if you decide to get rid of that (presumably #'s matching) 2.3T out of your SVO.

Rebuilding the 2.3T is even a little cheaper than installing the 5.0L into your Mustang.

It's a mistake to do this swap.

hey spdrcer trust me i know the value of a nice car..unfortunately this car has been redone with a 87-93 nose, the motor and trans are not original and the paint is not original. and the roof was changed, it has no value as an svo. sad i know

and yes there are a few headers out there for p heads along with a 90* boot i wont have a prob with that

I had Ford Motorsport P-headers for my Mustang, they make both non-coated and ceramic coated.

I agree though- don't ditch the Turbo 4! Guy over here has one running 9's in the 1/4 mile.

i dont like the turbo 4s. you can get the same gas mileage out of a v8 and they sound way better. the 4s dont heat up good and they have no bottom end power. regardless of why i want to do the swap anyone have any ideas on where ill get hung up if i use the ex computer and wiring/>
