5.0 Rattling and Burnt Rubber

Hello All,

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer with the 5.0 NOT the 4.0 in it I am experiencing a small rattling noise when accelerating but not when in park I also have a burning rubber type smell when on the highway my brakes are not hot so It has to be something else. I am going to be traveling from NH to TX soon so I need to figure this out soon

The rattling may be from preignition.Have you tried using premium grade fuel to see if it stops the noise? The burnt rubber smell, I would have to know a little more info about what it could be. What area of the vehicle is it coming from?

I have not tried using premium fuel I will do that on my next fill up as for the burnt rubber it is hard to tell it when I park and get out it smells more like the middle to the rear of the vehicle. If it helps the vehicle had been sitting for a while before I bought it so I am not sure if that would have anything to do with it or not
