Last night at 4:30am my starter motor kicked the bucket. AAA came through and flatbeded my truck home.

What starter motor should I put in? Is the $115 Autozone Reman OK, should I get the OEM from FPN for $170, or is there an aftermarket starter at Summit I should look at?

Any tips on removing the starter on a 5.0?

I don't think your starter was the reason you were towed.

I've had great luck with the stock starters. I would go that route. I still have my stock starter with 155k+ on it.

Thanks for the photo enhancement, kid. It's ironic that I was towed underneith that sign, but fortunatley I have permission to park in the alleyway.

I'm at 131k with the (now dead) stock starter.

I think the starter at FPN is a Motorcraft reman, because it has a core charge. I'll email Torrie tomorrow.

The remanufactured starters from Autozone have a lifetime free replacement warranty that came in handy two times. If I didn't have that warranty, I would have had to pay for a new one. If you go to a starter, and alternator rebuilder, they could just rebuild your old one. It would be a lot cheaper, but there wouldn't be any lifetime wattanty. I've bought many parts from rebuilders, and have repaired starters, and alternators. Sometimes it could be a $4 part, and other times it could be a $50 part. They aren't so hard to do once you get familiar with them.
