OK, I am sort of new to the world of Explorers. My wife and I are looking to purchase a 1998 - 2000 Exlporer 4 door, probably an XLT. I want to find one with the 5.0 V8. What kind of performance mods do they make for these? Are these pretty much the same 302's Ford used in the Mustang years ago? If so, I would imagine most anything they make for the Mustang 5.0 will work for this one as well. What about exhaust, chip, pullies, etc.? Does anyone make headers and dual exhaust for an Explorer? If so, is anyone running them? Are they too loud? I will be putting my family in this, so I don't want it to be too annoying. Any responses would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :D

I would improve the intake ( KKM ) and have a custom cat back fabricated first, Maybe a chip next. Sometim in the mod process I would go with synthetic fluids everywhere.

Good luck......

i wish i had a 5.0

i have 97k miles... is it too late for me to switch to synthetic fluids? what will it do if i switch the fluids (good and bad)?

I have the Ford Motorsport headers, Magnaflow exhaust, and a K&N intake on mine. I wouldn't say it was "too" loud. It just sounds very healthy. The wife probably wont think its as cool as you will though....

did you notice gains in hp/torque or a better sound from your exhaust when you put in the ford motor sport headers?
