There is no way in hell that would fit.

It's going to take a lot of work, I doubt it'll be bolt in, you'll have to do some fabrication work.. plus you'll need a new tranny and possibly a new transfer case and with that, different sized driveshafts.. your wiring harness will have to be changed out, you won't be able to use your factory ECU... and much much more.. that would be a Lot of work...

Does look like a nice engine though.

Was I wrong? Did I miss the big picture?.. lol... It won't work!... without major work.. I don't think it's Impossible... but I mean.... you might as well bolt your explorer body to whatever platform that engine works with... O.O

Are you some sort of special needs child?

hahahah! so dodge finally decided to make the mistake of variable geometry turbos in a diesel huh? chain driven overhead cams.....sound familiar anyone? youd think they would have learend from fords problems......o and look...no intercooler...that thing is a piece of work. Im so glad i dont work for ford anymore...im sick of pulling cabs and replacing turbos all day long....but im even more glad i dont work for dodge.....they should have a blast with this one

i dount know much about diesel so i will look for a alternitave for a moter. did not know diesels were that much bigger. and all the work well i know it will be work but maby i will look for something else

Whats wrong with the 302? It's not to hard to get it to 300hp with some bolt ons.

well i thought it would be neat to put a diesel moter in cuz i am driving my mounty now. this would be for my explorer since the moter was ruined from overheating. i guess i will have to more research in to the diesel world of moters and educate my self on them
my mounty and explorer are both 1997 5.0 awd so the x be diesel and mounty be gas and see the mpg difference in the two. they both get the same mpg

USUALLY, when someone goes so far to swap drivetrains, it is because the one you are swapping to is better in some way....

...but you chose a DODGE drivetrain... A DODGE DRIVETRAIN!!!!!

Dodge Trucks LOOK good....but that is it. Their Engines are CRAP. Their Transmissions are CRAP. Their Interiors are CRAP. And their Electrical Systems are....you guess it....CRAP!

Why not do a swap where the parts are RELIABLE!

Ryan

Just because it has the same displacement doesn't mean its a similar engine. Diesels are different than gas engines in many ways. This would not be a good swap for an explorer. Cool, yes. Feasible, no.

I agree with other posters about the quality of the dodge trucks, however the same cannot be said for the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. It is one of the most widely used, versatile, reliable diesel engines ever made.

That weighs 1/3 of what the truck does. Could you imagine the handling!?

ok i guess i will give up on this idea thanks for all the feed back

Seriously? Cummins doesn't ring any bells? No offense, but there are few engines as reliable as a Cummins.

I was going to say, Cummins is independent of Dodge - just like International Harvester is independent of Ford. And as for the "Dodge drivetrain", they're not all really Dodge's. They are sometimes from other manufacturers and some are actually quite reliable and heavy duty, like the NV4500 transmission which is a popular swap over the Ford ZF.

^ Very true. Dodge uses Getrag transmissions (Mercedes I think) with New Process transfer cases. Both of which are trusted names in the auto industry.

The Navistar engines used in Fords are seperate like IZ said and so is ZF (which by the way makes transmissions for people like Ferrari)
