So the manual calls for 5 quarts when you do oil and filter change. I use K&N oil filter but I don’t think its different size compare to the Ford filter.

If you check the dipstick after oi change, I usually check after a day or two of driving, the oil level is in the middle between the Min and Max reading. Based on the owner manual you shouldn’t add until it drops below the Min reading.

In that case, is 5 quarts enough from the get go or should I top it off? If it drops below the Min do I need to fill it to the middle of the dipstick or all the way to the Max?

5 quarts of oil is what the manual calls for, so it is 5 quarts.

Always go with what the manual says. Be careful and observe you have the correct owners manual. Run your VIN online and get the specs there too from a trusted site. Compare both and they should match. The oil has to fill the filter as well which accounts for a portion of a quart. I'm assuming you have a 4.6?

As long as the oil is gold in color and between the min/max hashes you are fine! I strive to get mine as close to midway as I can but as long as your over MIN that's all it needs.

5 qts is the V6. 6 qts for the V8.

My 03 4.6L has the tow package with an oil cooler on it. The oil cooler take nearly a quart by itself, so it takes almost 7 qts for an oil change.

That's right dla, how soon I forget just did mine a few weeks ago hah

5 quarts is fine. As per Ford: "If the oil level is above the MIN mark, DO NOT ADD OIL."
