Hi - new to me '99 Ranger XLT (2.5, 2wd, standard cab, w/102k). Tranny fluid was changed last week. I think I have a budding syncro issue on the 2nd/3rd upshift (seems harder than the other shift points). Tranny is smooth as silk when it's cold - once it warms up, it gets a little more difficult to shift (nothing major - just seems a little harder is all). Is there any additive I can put into it to sort of smooth it out? I've never had one (a manual tranny) that took auto tranny fluid - all of them have used 80/90 gear oil. Anyway, that's my question and I sure would appreciate any advise you folks can provide.:rangerred:

Pretty much you are stuck with ATF. Although, I've heard guys using synthectic fluid help prolong the wear..

Thanks for the comeback on this.

I knew going in I was stuck with ATF rather than 80/90 gear oil. I'm looking for anything folks have had luck with in using an additive to the ATF - something that works to make shifting a little easier.

Generally, symptoms like you describe are a sign of the slave cylinder going bad, but it usually starts with 1st and reverse.
My slave is bad, and works pretty well until the truck warms up.

You could also check your fluid level in the clutch reservoir, if you haven't already...

Thanks - I checked the fluid levels throughout the truck when I got it - everything is at (or near) Max. I'm guessing it's a syncro problem and will address it if something goes wrong with the tranny but, for right now, I'll have to live with it (too much invested in the truck to make that kind of dollar committment until times get a little better)....;)
